Mark your calendars! The worldwide Meatout will be taking place on March 20th. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Meatout, the world’s largest annual grassroots diet education campaign.
I know that a lot of my readers fall into a wide spectrum of vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians and unabashed carnivores. For those of you that still have meat in your diet, perhaps consider going meat-free for one day. Where do you start? Well…
- If you love spending time in the kitchen, plan ahead by checking out my recipe archives so that you are well-prepared to cook a meat-free meal. Trust me, I have some recipes that are so delicious, easy and quick, you won’t miss the meat. Or, head out to the library, and check out some vegetarian cookbooks.
- If you’re not in the mood to cook, visit one of your local vegetarian restaurants and help keep them in business. I have reviewed some restaurants or you can check out HappyCow.net to see what’s in your area.
- If you’re the social type, there is a whole list of Meatout events all over the world.
- If you’re already a vegetarian, try going vegan. That’s what I plan to do for the day.
- If you’re already vegan, invite some of your carnivore friends over for dinner, take them to a restaurant, or bring your friends some vegan treats from the local bakery.
- If you decide that one day without meat wasn’t so bad, but you’re still not ready to give it up entirely, consider joining in on Meat Free Mondays and make it a regular thing.
