Now it’s time to try some greens – escarola con ceci – as part of the Veggie Brothers review series.

The description on their website of this side dish is:

Organic escarole brusquely sauteed with organic chick peas, garlic and olive oil for that fresh garden-to-skillet flavor. A little touch of the Italian countryside basking in the Mediterranean sun! High in iron and vitamin A.

I made mine using the boiling method and the greens were steaming as I cut open the packet.

You could definitely taste the garden-to-skillet flavor. In fact, I was amazed that the greens didn’t get too wilty or mushy in the freezing and reheating process. The garlic was very pungent which is a flavor I liked. My In-house Taste Tester found the greens to be a little to bitter for his taste. I tasted the bitterness, but it wasn’t a deal breaker for me. It brought a nice “punch” of flavor.
