Veggie Brothers Review: Grilled Mahi Mahi Steak
Grilled mahi mahi steaks are the next to be tried as part of the Veggie Brothers review series. Veggie Brothers describes this dish as “Savory soy fish steaks grilled to perfection and served in a lemon / garlic sauce with fresh rosemary.”
I prepped the frozen meal using the boiling water method.
And, well, let’s just say that the reaction to the taste of this product was the funniest I’ve ever witnessed in my kitchen. My In-house Taste Tester took a forkful of the mahi mahi, put it in his mouth, wrinkled his nose and immediately spit it out into the sink with a decisive, “Yiiiiiick.” Uh-oh.
To be fair, my taste tester never liked fish even when an omnivore so it definitely was the reaction to the fishiness of this product. It does pack some serious fishy taste from the nori that wraps the soy steak. I enjoyed the flavor once I got over the fact that I wasn’t actually eating fish. The sauce was rather buttery and the rosemary added an interesting depth to the flavor profile. I ate the mahi mahi with the Veggie Brothers risotto. I thought the sauce paired well with the risotto.
But, be forewarned, if you don’t like fish…don’t eat this. If you do (or did) like the flavor of fish then you’ll be in mahi mahi heaven.
